On April 3, 2026, petrol prices in Pakistan rose by Rs137 to Rs458.40 per litre and diesel by Rs184 to Rs520.35 per litre. The federal government simultaneously announced targeted relief — Rs100 per litre subsidy on up to 20 litres of petrol per month for motorcycle owners, a one-time Rs1,500 per acre subsidy for small farmers, and monthly cash support for the transport sector. Punjab, Sindh, KP, and Islamabad each announced separate additional relief. The schemes are not all the same — your province determines exactly what you get and how you receive it.

Accuracy note: Every scheme amount and date in this article is sourced from Dawn, Geo News, ARY News, and ProPakistani — published April 3, 2026. Registration portals for most schemes are not yet live. Any website showing SMS codes or app download links for registration has not been officially confirmed. This page will be updated the moment official registration opens.

Why Petrol and Diesel Prices Rose

Pakistan imports almost all of its petrol and diesel. When global crude oil prices rise, Pakistani pump prices follow. The US-Israel military conflict with Iran disrupted supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s main oil shipping channels — sending crude prices up 80 to 90 percent on Oman and Dubai benchmarks in a matter of days.

The federal government had absorbed the previous March hike of Rs55 per litre for about a month using subsidies. By April 2, the gap between the subsidised price and actual import cost had become too large to sustain under Pakistan’s IMF programme commitments. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced the new prices late on the night of April 2, effective from April 3.

The government’s stated reason for choosing targeted subsidies over blanket relief is fiscal discipline — the IMF recommended against across-the-board subsidies that would widen the fiscal deficit. Relief has instead been directed to motorcycle owners, small farmers, and the transport sector.

Federal Relief Package — Four Targeted Schemes

The federal government announced four simultaneous relief measures at the same press conference where the price hike was revealed. These apply across all provinces unless a province has announced its own separate scheme on top. The amounts below are from the official announcement covered by Dawn, ARY News, and ProPakistani on April 3, 2026.

Scheme 1 — Motorcycle Petrol Subsidy (Federal)

Every registered motorcycle owner in Pakistan is entitled to Rs100 per litre subsidy on up to 20 litres of petrol per month — up to Rs2,000 in monthly relief. The subsidy runs for three months and will be reviewed after that. Your motorcycle must be registered in your own name with the Excise Department. Unregistered or transferred motorcycles will not qualify.

As of April 3, no official registration portal, SMS number, or app has been confirmed. ProPakistani reported that authorities are still deciding between a mobile app and an SMS-based system. Check the motorcycle subsidy guide — it will be updated the moment the registration method is confirmed.

⚠ Important: Registration for the federal motorcycle subsidy is not yet open. Do not share your CNIC with any third-party website or SMS number claiming to register you. Verify your motorcycle registration at your provincial Excise Department’s website right now.

Scheme 2 — Small Farmer Diesel Subsidy (Federal)

Small landowners receive a one-time payment of Rs1,500 per acre to offset higher diesel costs during the harvest season. Sindh and Punjab have each announced separate additional farmer support on top of this. Sindh confirmed payments begin April 6. The exact maximum acreage threshold at the federal level has not been officially defined. The farmer subsidy guide will be updated as the acreage criteria is officially announced.

Scheme 3 — Transport Sector Monthly Support (Federal)

Freight trucks receive Rs70,000 per month. Large commercial transport vehicles receive Rs80,000 per month. Inter-city public service buses receive Rs100,000 per month. All three are subject to review after one month. Inter-city passenger transport operators also receive a Rs100 per litre diesel subsidy to keep passenger fares stable. Pakistan Railways will also receive fuel support, though the exact amount was not specified. Full details: transport sector subsidy guide.

Scheme 4 — Energy Conservation: Early Market Closures

The federal government announced early market closing times to save approximately 1,200MW of electricity demand during peak hours. Exact timings are being finalised in consultation with all four provinces and will be announced separately. This affects commercial businesses, not households.

Province-by-Province Breakdown

The federal scheme is not the only scheme. Punjab, Sindh, KP, and Islamabad each made separate announcements. The amounts differ. The delivery methods differ. If you are in Sindh, you receive a direct Rs2,000 cash transfer — not a pump discount. If you are in KP, the announced amount is Rs2,200 via digital wallet. Read your province carefully.

What to Do Right Now — Before Registration Opens

Registration for most of these schemes is not yet live. The one thing you can do right now, regardless of your province, is verify your motorcycle registration. This is the single eligibility gate confirmed by every government — federal, Punjab, Sindh, and KP.

Step-by-Step: Verify Your Motorcycle Registration Today

  1. Find your motorcycle’s registration certificate (book). Locate the registered owner name.
  2. If the name matches your CNIC, confirm it on your provincial Excise Department’s website.
  3. If the motorcycle is not in your name — act now. Sindh has announced motorcycle transfers are temporarily free of charge. Transfer the registration to your own CNIC before the subsidy portal opens.
  4. Ensure your CNIC is not expired. Expired CNICs cause verification failures. Renew at your nearest NADRA office.
  5. Note your 13-digit CNIC number and motorcycle registration number. You will need both when registration opens.
  6. Watch paksinfo.com for updates — this page will carry the confirmed official registration link the moment any government announces it.

Sindh residents — act by April 5

Sindh CM confirmed the application process goes live within 2 to 3 days of April 3. If your motorcycle is not in your name, use the free transfer window now. Payments begin within 15 days of registration. Full instructions: Sindh motorcycle subsidy guide.

What to Do When Things Go Wrong

My motorcycle is not registered in my name

Sindh has temporarily made motorcycle ownership transfers free of charge — go to your nearest Sindh Excise office with your CNIC and the previous owner’s CNIC before the portal opens. Punjab, KP, and federal transfers follow standard Excise Department procedure.

I live in Islamabad but my CNIC shows another province

For Islamabad free public transport — anyone physically present in Islamabad can board for free. No CNIC check at the bus gate. For the federal motorcycle subsidy, your motorcycle’s Excise registration determines eligibility — not your CNIC address.

The scheme portal is not working or has not launched

As of April 3, no portal is officially live for most schemes. If a website claims to be the registration portal, verify it ends in .gov.pk before entering any personal details. Unofficial portals appeared within hours of the announcement — none are legitimate.

I am a farmer — which scheme covers me and when do payments start

Sindh: farmers receive Rs1,500 per acre with payments beginning April 6, per CM Murad Ali Shah’s confirmed statement. Punjab: Rs100 per litre diesel subsidy per acre — delivery mechanism not yet announced. Federal: Rs1,500 per acre one-time payment — process not yet confirmed. Full details: farmer subsidy guide.

I am a truck or bus owner — how do I register for transport support

The registration process has not been officially announced as of April 3. Contact your transport association or the Ministry of Communications for the earliest official guidance. Full details: transport sector subsidy guide.

KP or Balochistan — I have not seen any announcement for my area

KP’s Rs2,200 motorcycle subsidy applies to registered motorcycle owners in KP — the payment timeline is not yet confirmed. Balochistan residents are covered under the federal motorcycle and farmer schemes. This page will be updated if Balochistan announces a separate package.

Check your motorcycle registration in your provincial Excise system today — this is the one step you can take right now, regardless of which province you are in. Sindh’s portal goes live within 2 to 3 days; register the moment it opens to receive your payment within 15 days.

For Punjab and KP residents: this page will be updated the moment the official registration channel is confirmed. Every linked article in this cluster will carry the official portal link the day it is announced.

Frequently Asked Questions

The maximum saving is Rs2,000 per month — Rs100 per litre on 20 litres of petrol. If you fill up less than 20 litres in a month, you save proportionally less. Sindh is delivering this as a flat Rs2,000 direct cash transfer. KP is paying Rs2,200 directly to digital wallets. Punjab is administering Rs100 per litre on 20 litres but has not confirmed the delivery mechanism yet.
Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah said the application goes live within 2 to 3 days of April 3 — that means by April 5 or 6, 2026. Registration is linked to your CNIC and registered motorcycle number. Petrol will not be cheaper at Sindh fuel stations — the Rs2,000 is transferred directly to your account. Full step-by-step instructions will be in the Sindh motorcycle subsidy guide the moment the portal is confirmed.
All provinces have confirmed the subsidy goes to the registered owner’s CNIC — not the rider. If the motorcycle is not in your name, the transfer will go to whoever the Excise records show. Sindh has temporarily made motorcycle ownership transfers free of charge. Visit your nearest Sindh Excise office with both CNICs before the portal opens. For Punjab and KP, standard Excise transfer procedures and fees apply.
Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz announced free public transport across all Punjab cities with no end date specified. Islamabad’s free transport is confirmed for 30 days starting April 4, 2026, at a cost of Rs350 million to the Ministry of Interior. Both are subject to review. The free transport guide lists which services are covered in which cities.
Sindh is the only province that has confirmed a start date — April 6, 2026. The federal one-time payment is Rs1,500 per acre for small landowners. Sindh also confirmed a minimum wheat price of Rs3,500 per maund. Punjab announced Rs100 per litre diesel per acre but has not given a payment date. Full province-by-province details: farmer subsidy guide.
As of April 3, 2026, no official government registration portal for the federal motorcycle subsidy is live. Sindh’s portal is expected within 2 to 3 days. Any website currently claiming to register you is unofficial and unverified. Do not share your CNIC, OTP, or bank account details with any website whose URL does not end in .gov.pk, sindh.gov.pk, or punjab.gov.pk.
No separate Balochistan provincial relief package has been announced as of April 3, 2026. Balochistan residents are covered under the federal motorcycle subsidy (Rs2,000/month for registered bike owners) and the federal farmer subsidy (Rs1,500/acre). This page will be updated if Balochistan makes a separate announcement.
