How Online Utility Bill Check Works in Pakistan

Every utility company in Pakistan — electricity or gas — maintains a publicly accessible online billing portal. These portals pull live data from the company’s billing system. No account creation is required. The process is identical across all 10 companies:

1
📄
Find Your Number
Locate your account or reference number on any old electricity or gas bill. It’s always printed at the top.
2
🌐
Go to the Portal
Click through to your company’s official portal using the links on this page. No login needed.
3
⌨️
Enter the Number
Type or paste your account/reference number into the single input field on the portal.
4
See Your Bill
Current amount due, due date, units consumed, and arrears appear immediately on screen.

Account Number vs. Reference Number — What’s the Difference?

This distinction matters for LESCO, MEPCO, FESCO, IESCO, PESCO, HESCO, and SEPCO — all WAPDA-successor DISCOs. These companies use two separate numbers on each bill:

  • Reference Number (14 digits) — changes every month; used for online bill check and payment. This is the number the portal asks for.
  • Consumer Number (permanent) — stays the same for the life of your connection; used for connection transfers, complaints, and new connections.

K-Electric uses a single Account Number that stays permanent. SSGC and SNGP use a Consumer Number that also stays permanent. When in doubt, use the number labeled “Reference No.” on your bill for the online portal — if there is no separate Reference No., use the main account/consumer number.

Online Payment Methods Available Across All Companies

Every utility company in Pakistan accepts digital payments — you do not need to visit a bank or office. The following payment methods work for all 10 utility companies:

  • JazzCash app — “Bill Payment” → select company → enter account/reference number → pay
  • EasyPaisa app — same process — available for all DISCOs and gas companies
  • Internet Banking — HBL, UBL, Meezan, MCB, Bank Alfalah, Allied Bank all support utility bill payments
  • ATM — most major bank ATMs have a bill payment option in the main menu
  • Bank counter — walk into any major bank, share your account/reference number, pay cash
  • Company’s own app — K-Electric, LESCO, and SNGP have official apps with in-app payment

Troubleshoot — When the Portal Does Not Work

Online portals for Pakistani utility companies work reliably most of the time — but a few common issues come up. Here is what to do for each:

  • Portal not loading — try Chrome incognito mode; avoid evening peak hours (6–10pm); switch from mobile data to WiFi. LESCO’s portal URL requires the port number in the address: lesco.gov.pk:36269 — without it, the page will not open.
  • “Invalid account number” error — re-copy the number carefully from your bill; check for extra spaces or dashes; confirm you are using Reference Number (not Consumer Number) on DISCO portals.
  • Bill not generated yet — electricity bills are generated monthly on a fixed cycle; if you check right after your meter reading date, the new bill may not appear for 2–3 days. The portal shows the most recently generated bill.
  • Amount looks wrong — check for arrears from previous months added to the current bill; fuel adjustment charges change monthly and can increase the total noticeably. For a genuine dispute, call the company helpline.
  • Connection suspended — check your bill for any outstanding dues; pay them through JazzCash, EasyPaisa, or bank; then call the company helpline to request reconnection — the number is 118 for all electricity companies and 1199 for gas.
  • Don’t know your company — check any old bill — the company name is always printed clearly at the top. If you have no old bill, ask a neighbour in the same building or area — everyone in the same locality is served by the same DISCO.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which electricity company covers my area in Pakistan?
+
The easiest way is to check any old electricity bill — the company name is always printed clearly at the top. As a general rule: Karachi is served by K-Electric; Lahore by LESCO; Faisalabad by FESCO; Multan, Bahawalpur, and southern Punjab by MEPCO; Rawalpindi and Islamabad by IESCO; KPK by PESCO; Hyderabad and interior Sindh by HESCO; and Sukkur and upper Sindh by SEPCO. Every company in Pakistan covers a defined geographic territory — there is no overlap.
Can I check my electricity bill without my reference number?
+
All official DISCO online portals require either the Reference Number or Consumer Number to retrieve a bill. If you do not have an old bill, call the national electricity helpline at 118 — provide your registered address and they can confirm your account details. You can also visit the nearest DISCO customer service office with your CNIC and they will look up your account in person.
Is online bill checking free in Pakistan?
+
Yes — checking your utility bill online is completely free for all 10 electricity and gas companies in Pakistan. The official portals are publicly accessible, require no registration or login, and charge nothing. SMS methods (LESCO’s 8118, for example) may incur a standard SMS charge from your network, but the online web portal is always free.
What is the difference between the due date and the last date on my electricity bill?
+
Pakistani electricity bills typically show two payment deadlines. The Due Date is the standard payment date — pay by this date and no extra charge applies. The Last Date (sometimes called “Last Date with Surcharge”) gives you a few extra days to pay, but a late payment surcharge is added to your next bill. If you miss the Last Date entirely, the DISCO can suspend your electricity connection and you will need to clear all dues plus visit or call to request reconnection.
Can I pay my electricity or gas bill through JazzCash or EasyPaisa?
+
Yes — JazzCash and EasyPaisa both support bill payments for all major electricity DISCOs and gas companies in Pakistan. Open the app, go to “Bill Payment,” select your company, enter your account or reference number, and complete the payment. Save the confirmation screenshot as your payment record. Internet banking through HBL, UBL, Meezan, MCB, and Bank Alfalah also works for all companies.
What do “arrears” mean on my utility bill?
+
Arrears on a Pakistani utility bill are the unpaid amount from a previous billing period that has been carried forward to the current bill. If you paid your last bill in full and on time, your arrears will show zero. If you missed a payment or underpaid, that amount appears as arrears and is added to your current bill total. Arrears must be paid along with the current month’s charges to bring your account up to date.
My electricity bill seems very high this month — what should I do?
+
First check whether arrears from a previous unpaid bill have been added — this is the most common reason for a sudden jump. Also check the Fuel Adjustment Charges line — NEPRA adjusts these monthly and they can significantly affect the total. If the units consumed look wrong compared to your normal usage, call your DISCO helpline at 118 and request a Meter Reading Dispute. A DISCO inspector will visit to re-read the meter, typically within 7 to 10 working days.
Which gas company serves Lahore and Punjab — SSGC or SNGP?
+
SNGP (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited) serves Lahore, all of Punjab, Islamabad, KPK, and AJK. SSGC (Sui Southern Gas Company) serves Karachi, interior Sindh, and Balochistan. If you are unsure, check your gas bill — the company name is printed at the top. For SNGP bills, the online portal is billview.sngpl.com.pk. For SSGC bills, check through the SSGC portal at ssgc.com.pk.
