How Online Utility Bill Check Works in Pakistan
Every utility company in Pakistan — electricity or gas — maintains a publicly accessible online billing portal. These portals pull live data from the company’s billing system. No account creation is required. The process is identical across all 10 companies:
Account Number vs. Reference Number — What’s the Difference?
This distinction matters for LESCO, MEPCO, FESCO, IESCO, PESCO, HESCO, and SEPCO — all WAPDA-successor DISCOs. These companies use two separate numbers on each bill:
- Reference Number (14 digits) — changes every month; used for online bill check and payment. This is the number the portal asks for.
- Consumer Number (permanent) — stays the same for the life of your connection; used for connection transfers, complaints, and new connections.
K-Electric uses a single Account Number that stays permanent. SSGC and SNGP use a Consumer Number that also stays permanent. When in doubt, use the number labeled “Reference No.” on your bill for the online portal — if there is no separate Reference No., use the main account/consumer number.
Online Payment Methods Available Across All Companies
Every utility company in Pakistan accepts digital payments — you do not need to visit a bank or office. The following payment methods work for all 10 utility companies:
- JazzCash app — “Bill Payment” → select company → enter account/reference number → pay
- EasyPaisa app — same process — available for all DISCOs and gas companies
- Internet Banking — HBL, UBL, Meezan, MCB, Bank Alfalah, Allied Bank all support utility bill payments
- ATM — most major bank ATMs have a bill payment option in the main menu
- Bank counter — walk into any major bank, share your account/reference number, pay cash
- Company’s own app — K-Electric, LESCO, and SNGP have official apps with in-app payment
Troubleshoot — When the Portal Does Not Work
Online portals for Pakistani utility companies work reliably most of the time — but a few common issues come up. Here is what to do for each:
- Portal not loading — try Chrome incognito mode; avoid evening peak hours (6–10pm); switch from mobile data to WiFi. LESCO’s portal URL requires the port number in the address:
lesco.gov.pk:36269— without it, the page will not open. - “Invalid account number” error — re-copy the number carefully from your bill; check for extra spaces or dashes; confirm you are using Reference Number (not Consumer Number) on DISCO portals.
- Bill not generated yet — electricity bills are generated monthly on a fixed cycle; if you check right after your meter reading date, the new bill may not appear for 2–3 days. The portal shows the most recently generated bill.
- Amount looks wrong — check for arrears from previous months added to the current bill; fuel adjustment charges change monthly and can increase the total noticeably. For a genuine dispute, call the company helpline.
- Connection suspended — check your bill for any outstanding dues; pay them through JazzCash, EasyPaisa, or bank; then call the company helpline to request reconnection — the number is 118 for all electricity companies and 1199 for gas.
- Don’t know your company — check any old bill — the company name is always printed clearly at the top. If you have no old bill, ask a neighbour in the same building or area — everyone in the same locality is served by the same DISCO.
